Tinhorn Creek Oldfield's Collection Merlot 2003

We are enjoying our vacation in Pentcton.  This is where I grew up, and where I graduated from high school.  And I love this country so much.

All the orchards are gone, and the roadside fruitstands with them, and now there are more wineries than you can shake a stick at.  There are so many of them that they have run out of decent names, and are stuck with Zero Sum Balance Wineries, and stuff like that.  They aren't all gonna make it, but if some of them are smart, they will stop trying to be the lastest trendy tourist wine and sell their grapes to another winery.  If not - gack.

Nonetheless, we are sampling one of them, and it is very nice.  I recommend it, if it comes your way.

I had their house Merlot with dinner at the winery the other week. It was quite pleasent, if not exactly the 2003 reserve. But it wasn't nearly as expensive as the 2003 reserve either : P

Yes, the good names are all gone. Who could hope to compete with Blasted Church (http://blastedchurch.com/) for example?

Well, we buy about six bottles of wine a year - so at least one of them can be a good one. :)

Almost forgot to ask: Did you visit the bookstore?

Oh yes. It is as I remember it, although I think he has managed to stuff even more things in there (it always seems like it is bursting at the seams - but so well organized). And we met the pugs. :) So sweet. :)
