The image files you're linking to are sodding enormous :) You can try to edit them smaller and save them again, linking to the new files.

If you go directly to https://agoodwinsmith.dreamwidth.org/file/1909.jpg you can see that it's 3072 X 2304 pixels. Try saving it at 1000 X 750 and see what it looks like when you post it.

you can edit them!

You can go to 'edit post'. When the box of editing is open, set it to 'rich text',
and then highlight the picture,
then pick the little 'Insert/Edit Image' icon with the yellow background. It makes a window pop up, titled 'Image properties'.
The window has two tabs. on the left is Image Info, which has fields for
URL (which should be filled in already, with the URL of the pic you highlighted)
Short Description
and then! on the left! Width and Height! you can set the width - say, to 500 - and the height will automatically adjust to match.

Then you can click 'ok' and that should do it. It closes the window and the picture is in your post.

Then you tell it to save the post.
