We have had the most amazing week of sunshine.  Sometimes the day has started grey, and the sun breaks through for a glorious afternoon.  Once the breakthrough was only an hour - but then the next day was a stolen treasure because the promised rain never appeared.  Again, today, the sun has been shining.  So good.[1]

Also, I have a casual assignment at my previous place of employment that will last for a month full-time, and then dwindle to part-time for part of the next month - and then I'll be free again.  My assignment doesn't start until 03 March 08, so I have another week of glorious blowing off the world.  Wah lah.[2]

I have been weeding out the books, but slowly.  I started with the video cassettes, and that felt better.  Small task, and big reward of clear bare shelf parts for our bourgeoning collection of DVDs and CDs.  The books are harder because the bookshelves are crammed, so even discarding a big pile leaves the shelves full - not so satisfying.  And not as easy to clear away the debris, either.  With the videos, I just took them down in small batches to the mailboxes on the first floor, and they disappeared.  Even if all someone is doing is selling them - woo hoo - they are out of my hair.  The books, not so easy.  If I don't want my first year textbook of short stories from 1980, nobody else is going to either.  And they weigh a freakin' ton.  I am not loading up the grocery cart and trundling them to the library, nope.  Not even the library's annual sale will find homes for most of the books I have discarded so far.  And did I mention that they weigh a freakin' ton.  Once we get into more novel territory, those can go down to the mailboxes without too much trouble.  I had already taken a first swipe at my cookbooks, and those discards went quickly.

I do like spring.

[1] - the downside is that it was cloudy for the lunar eclipse, so, so much for that, but I feel a lack of wah about that because the photos on TV have been spectacular - better than I could have seen with my aging eyeballs.  And - there will be another one in 2010.  On the Solstice!  How exciting will that be, eh?

[2] - okay, yes, this only delays the impending argle about money - but that's all daily life is anyway: just a delay of the unpleasant for as long as possible.  (I would probably be less "ohm baby" if I didn't have a temporary assignment coming up, but I am going to milk this serenity for all it's got.)
