RIP Ratboy - Chuckie put to sleep today.
Jan. 20th, 2020 12:24 pmHe seemed to weather my absence quite well, but then declined rapidly. I had him put to sleep this morning.
He did get one more day in the sunshine on Saturday.
Drat.
I still can't add pictures, so you'll have imagine an emaciated old cat squinting at the camera while the sun shines on his back and the scene out the window is more snow than you ever want to see.
He was a stray to us in Spring of 2003 and we guessed him to be about a year old, so that would make him 18 ish.

Rat Boy - unsung cat hero
Aug. 14th, 2010 06:42 pmWell, he's not, really, but he is a very jealous little soul who wants to be first cat, only cat. And he picks on Sam, which makes him a very naughty boy, indeed.
But, really, he's a sweetie-pie. He cuddles, he chats, he comes running to the door when you come home. His idea of the best time ever is when the human plays with him - string, ping-pong ball, ornamental chopstick, tin-foil ball - absolutely anything as long as there is a human playing.
So: here's some pictures of a very cute cat who is living in the shadow of an elderly cat who seems to get aaaaalllllll the attention:

But, really, he's a sweetie-pie. He cuddles, he chats, he comes running to the door when you come home. His idea of the best time ever is when the human plays with him - string, ping-pong ball, ornamental chopstick, tin-foil ball - absolutely anything as long as there is a human playing.

Sometimes cats make up their minds, and there is no shifting them. Rat Boy, also known as Fuzzy Lips, You Fink, and Don't Bug Sam, has decided that the only good tidbit is a tidbit he has bitten off for himself from whatever I am eating. Stuff diced up beforehand is no good, and neither is anything I bite off to give to him.
I am fairly dotty about cats, and am only saved from eccentric old catladyhood by living in an apartment in a busy-road part of the city. Sleep on the bed? Of course, where else? Shredded furniture? Check. Cats allowed to lick off whatever plate or bowl attracts their interest? Yes, sure, no problem. But I just can't get on side with the idea of a bite for me and a bite for Rat Boy and a bite for me and a bite for Rat Boy. Bleah [shudder shudder shudder].
So now Chuckie, aka Chuckles, Yuckster, and Hey! has decided that nobody loves him and he is gonna go in the garden and eat worms. He is further degruntled by our current lack of garden. Really, I have never seen a cat who can look so woebegone. Cats who can look furious, offended, and outraged, yes. But Chuckie takes his hurt little feelings and goes and curls up in a ball, and shows you the most pathetic little face with bags under the eyes.
Poor little Rat Boy.
