Yesterday, after 6:00 pm (everybody else gone home), and after opening & closing a billions times all day, the filing cabinet would not unlock for love, money, or threatened violence.[1] Guess where I keep my purse for safety? Ah ha ha.
So, I had to leave my purse (with my apartment keys, bus pass, bank card, credit card, new weird-lookin' driver's licence, address book, and so on) at work. All night. No bus pass for me, no sirree, neither coming home nor going back to work this morning.
When the facilities people came this morning, first the person who looks after keys came, and no luck. As last night, the key in the lock would turn freely either way, but it would not actually move the locking rods. Then the person with the tool cart came and wrestled with it, including prodding tools and flashlights. Then he went away. Then he came back with someone else and a honking big crowbar. They had to tear the upper drawer off so that I could get at things, and even now the lower drawer still will not budge.
It is empty now, waiting to be taken away and used for scraps.
My purse is hanging quietly behind the door. I may just take to closing my office door when I'm away, since even if I lose the key, there are spares and masters - and if those fail because the locking mechanism is toast, maybe I will get to see someone shoot the doorknob off. :)
And then, once my purse was free, my work email ate an email that had taken me quite a while to compose. Grrrrrrrowl. It has been recomposed and sent.
[1] - okay, I confess, I applied a *leeetle* bit of violence, but not as much as I wanted to, I assure you.
