We have a monthly DVD rental thingy, which is jolly useful for US TV shows that we can't get on Freeview, but we still record stuff from the telly and if we want to watch something more than once we might buy the DVD. There's no reason why you have to choose only one option there.
But if Netflix doesn't have anything that appeals to you, there's no reason to give them your business of course.
