Discovery Star Trek - season 4
Jun. 9th, 2026 01:27 pm So I've set my TV system to tape any unviewed-by-me Star Trek that is thrown out as a lure for new seasons and/or new series. I am currently watching Discovery Season Four without having seen the previous three. I've discovered spoilers for things I haven't watched yet, but that is fine for me because the Star Trek universe is a place where I am able to completely, but *completely* suspend disbelief. Later, I am very "oh, *seriously*" but during the watch I am completely invested.[1]
And I have to say that I don't understand how people who love this series can be all "oh pooh pooh" about Starfleet Academy.
There is one thing I will say about my suspension of disbelief for any Star Trek episode: I really *hate* the smirky smile smile that ends many episodes indicating right-thought resolution of the conflict. Hate it. This season of Discovery is lousy with it, as is the new Starfleet Academy. Ugh. But up until that part, the episodes have all the flaky science and woo-woo I could ever want. It's ultimately all about the people dynamic, and the actors are always good once they have settled into their characters.
[1] - I just recently rewatched Amok Time from The Original Series and was absolutely in the groove.[2]
[2] - I watch it now for the colour. I originally watched it in black & white, and when the episodes became easily available again, I was delighted/shocked by the beautiful colour of the walls and backgrounds and lighting.[3]
[3] - I realized recently that the psychedelic sixties were fueled by the desire to sell colour TVs.
