and the author, David Spiegelhalter, spends some time unpacking the graphs and implications of the Lancet study.

Basically: alcohol, yes there is some risk, which increases with amount consumed, but total abstinence is not necessary.

It seems like there is a similar risks benefits balance to birth control pills:
