The Ogelsby Verb Disc.
Oct. 28th, 2007 05:14 pmI have a new toy. This neato-keen disc has the inifintive verb on the outside, and then in various cunning windows across the face of the disc appear the present, the past participle, the present participle & gerund, and the past. Oooo.
The graphic at this website is slightly squashed, so it doesn't give you an idea of the tactile satisfaction of handling the disc:

I never learned grammar in school. It was always "you'll get grammar next year so we won't do any now" or "you had grammar last year so we won't do any now". Not surprising, I suppose, given the baby boom and classes of 35 to 40 kids per teacher, but a handicap, nonetheless. I love finding tools like these, or the old grammar books that used to be used in the Canadian school system. I have a nervous obsession with grammar - English is my major, and my strongest skill set, but I can't talk the language. It's a like a rocket scientist talking about "thingies". Cute if it's a send up, and only for about 30 seconds.
