Happy Solstice Y'All

I have some American second and third cousins who speak proper "y'all" and it doesn't take much time to fall into the habit when in their company, so I feel entitled to the "y'all". For years and years I thought it was Barvarian Cream, and I still think that sounds better. We also warsh our clothes.
Anyhoo. I always like the lead up to this Solstice because the days have been getting longer and longer. I am immediately bummed when we hit this date because the slow slide into darkness has begun.
It does mean that fresh plant things will be available, so the fact that we are consuming them during the encroaching darkness should raise our spirits a bit. Huzzah.

Date: 2021-06-21 09:13 am (UTC)I'm so with you on the dying of the light, but at least here we get... in theory... some warm weather.
December is a great 'reset' month for making sure all is ready for the starting of seeds in little pots in the greenhouse January. So even that approaching just means that I get another chance to 'start' a garden the way I mean to go on. Things begin giving up seeds now ready for next year...

Date: 2021-06-21 08:16 pm (UTC)I have never been a seedling starter. Aside from wanting the immediate gratification of nursery plants, my attention is all or nothing. So, once I've got something planted, I won't think of it again until it is too thirsty to recover.
I used to have a shamrock plant that was my water alarm for indoor plants. It recovers from nearly everything, and when thirsty it goes limp. Give it water and it perks up. So everything else gets a drink too when the shamrock goes limp. This house has killed my shamrock, though. I have had it since I was 20, and it made every move without trouble. It even lived happily in my Mom's sewing room while we lived there once we got in town. But this house vanquished it. It was sickly before Suzi went after it, and it couldn't withstand her enthusiastic digging and chewing.
