I don't care how old you get, new glasses are exciting. :)

Anyhoo - I really like the young optometrist who did my eye exam. Young and smart with a decent sense of humour. Also: knows her bum from her eyebrows, which I cannot report truthfully about others who are unnamed but not forgiven.

Also: sometimes this being old schtick has benefits. I am replacing lenses in my distance glasses, and getting a whole nother new frames and lenses for close up work, all for less than $900.00 (CAN) which is just boggling. On the other hand, I *did* used to buy my glasses from *the* place on Granville that served the stars. Really knowledgeable people, and they have a selection of frames that makes you drool, but, hey, Granville Street rents, yes/no? Also: your glasses may have rubbed temples with the ones bought by Robin Williams. I mean.

Today I am making a potato salad to take to a picnic later today in the now freezing and dripping Herald Park. Just waiting for the components to cool so they don't melt the dressing. Oh - there goes my timer.

New glasses are always dread for me but I'm happy for you!

I think I'm in favour of glasses because I was nine when I got my first pair, and the difference was *amazing*. I was a tall kid at that age (seriously), and so I was seated at the back of the class. I couldn't read the board (I didn't know), and I was following what was going on by paying attention to the motion of the teacher's hand to determine what was written, and then relying on my memory. Good training, no doubt, but being able to see was like being handed the keys.

My vision has become progressively worse (as it does), and it has long been that I am very anxious about where my glasses are when they are not on my face. If, in an emergency, I was naked, and could only grab one thing - hands down, it would be my glasses. People have seen naked bodies before, and somebody is gonna have a blankie, but my glasses do not grow on trees, nor on the rack at London Drugs. Ooo - I am feeling quite worked up about this: sorry.

I didn't like the move to progressives. That was traumatic - and nauseating.

Oh, I remember not realizing that normal people could see leaves on trees. I thought it was like how we knew about cells because we could see them through a microscope, but you couldn't see them with your regular vision. I was shocked at the level of detail.

Weirdly, I adjusted fine to progressives. What I don't like is that most glasses look terrible on me and it takes forever to find a pair I like, and so I am annoyed every time my prescription changes and I have to get new ones.
