Today the wind was blowing and the sun was shining, and I really really wanted to play hookey on the beach.  But I took photos instead.

This is where I wait for my bus in the morning:   It is the corner of Gore and Powell, and that is the famous Sunrise Market before they are open.  You can find some great stuff and deals on food in there, but it is a madhouse of insane Chinese grannies buying leafy green things to make who knows what.  I know they are insane because they will beat you with their garlic chives if you don't get out of the way quick enough.  The view is just south of east.

Twenty minutes later we come to the creepy underpass at Fifth and Granville:  looking east of north, five minutes later we have crossed Fourth and are facing due west  , under Granville Street Bridge, along Fourth.  Good food and shopping are further west along that street.  Eventually you come to Banyen Books and Aphrodites Cafe.

We've gone down the hill (down and down to the north), and today we are taking the car route into Granville Island so that we can show you the exciting sign.  It is shiny:  .  And then we look to the north of west to show you Burrard Street Bridge, just past the private marina:  , and then we look east, to the other side of the fresh water pond with ducks and geese, to show you the windy wind:  .  Then we walk further, being ready to leap like a salmon away from the SUVs who want all of the road all of the time.  We're looking north, and if you go west, you come to the public market, and if you go east, you come to ECU and artists' studios and theatres.  Oh, and a couple of nice restaurants here and there:  .  We go east because I am going to work, and we find the nice maintnenance guys hanging Christmas lights:  .  And just before I get to work, I want to show you Ocean, because they don't do cement - they do concrete:

I think this is where I say: ta dah.  :)

I carry it everywhere; and yes I am. :)

This is the first camera I've boughten myself - usually I get my mother's cast offs as she moves up the gadget chain. I always feel it is a waste to buy something when I already have something, you know? This one is the one I wanted, and because of that, it's better. Not childish, no sir, not me. :)

Not your mum's camera. :-)

It's good that you carry it with you. Not only will you get good pictures, you'll have a camera with you.

Useful for traffic collisions, human rights violations, and other emergencies.

Fender bender? You can snap a picture before the drivers have to move the vehicles out of traffic. Hit and run? You *did* get the number of that truck. Police brutality? Peter Gabriel's "Witness" program gives people video cameras to catch abuse on camera, and now with cell phones and little cameras like yours in so many hands, it's remarkable what gets caught on video.

I'm not suggesting you go chasing things, but it's a useful tool to have handy.

And with digital, as you have discovered, there is no earthly reason NOT to snap a picture. Take as many as you like.

Okay - I seem to have offended you past all bearing - I don't even get to see your exercise reports? Drat.
