Second of all ...
May. 19th, 2023 02:38 pm... today is Lorne and my 27th Wedding Anniversary. I'm feeling a little sad.
Thinking about the 19th of May in 1996, it was incredibly cold. And the Winter had been harsh so that all the tulips my Mom had planted the fall before, to be up and beautiful for the wedding, had died miserably. She was left with balloons and nearly bare trees. We had the ceremony and party at my parents' house in Tappen. It was gorgeous even though it was freezing. It stopped raining at 3:50 pm and we went outside for the ceremony on the lower deck, and it was all accomplished without a drip. Then we came inside for the party and the drizzle resumed. So pretty good, overall.
In 1996, the travelling feast of the Buddha's birthday was on the 19th, so we thought that was pretty good, too.
This year, the tulips have already been up and fried in the not-a-heat-dome heat a week ago. We would have wilted mercilessly this year out on that deck.
I mean: yes, the conditions cycle through a spectrum from year to year, but this is the hottest yet.
