It gets even weirder

So, I've been snortling because of a shopping bag I see here used by Urban Behaviour ( http://www.urbanbehavior.com/ ). It's a white bag, with black printing on it like thus:
Sexy
Modern
Edgy
Generation
And I've been thinking - doesn't anybody ever check their acronyms before they chose a slogan?
And you know, I was expecting the google search to turn up this entry first one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smeg_%28vulgarism%29
But it was not.
Instead the first google entry was this:
http://www.smeg.com/
which led to this:
http://www.smegusa.com/
Upon which website, if you wait for the images to scroll by, you will eventually see retro-50's fridge, in candy cane pink, with the acronym SMEG in big chrome letters across the front.
Oy.
I mean: oy.

Date: 2010-03-30 01:45 am (UTC)I'm surprised you haven't heard of them, but on the other hand, I've been looking at home design shows and magazines for years now as doing up this place is the only way I will be able to afford a nicer place for the next few years :-)
And yes, it causes great hilarity to everyone that finds out about them or sees one of their products for the first time :-)

Date: 2010-03-30 07:14 am (UTC)The name Smeg stands for "Smalterie Metallurgiche, Emiliane, Guastallia" which is a metal enamelling factory in Emilia, Italy.
It's even more amusing, if you go to, say, the UK site for SMEG (www.smeguk.com), as the page loads, it pulls images from the "home" webserver at www.smeg.it (grin!), really!
