Harbinger of the ...
Jul. 12th, 2009 07:38 pmI have always liked the sound of the word harbinger, even though I have only heard it used in negative combinations: harbingers of doom sort of thing. I just looked it up, and its root is more neutral: from a middle English word meaning someone who goes ahead of the group to arrange for lodgings. That sounds good. In fact, someone that goes ahead of me and makes arrangements for my comfort sounds like a fine person worthy of praise and monetary compensation.
I don't actually anticipate any harbingers of either kind in my life any time soon, but I needed to write about something. There are a couple of real life things that have me in a snit, but there is no point in jotting about them because the jottings always come home to roost like pigeon poo. So, it is better not to put fingers to keyboard in the first place.
